THE ART OF EXPRESSIVE STITCHING - A THREE HOUR MIXED MEDIA CLASS BY LIZ BESSEL AND HAYLEY PERRY

SATURDAY 3/23/24, 10-1:00 PM  |  Fee: $75 per student, $95 with Kit, $115 with kit and hoop.

Liz Bessel and Hayley Perry are teaming up to teach The Art of Expressive Stitching, an extension of a program they started thanks to a grant from Fiber Art Now. This class will be a mixed media class covering many types of stitching and fiber art including: sewing, quilting, rug hooking, fabric quilling, embroidery, applique, etc.

This class will touch on the benefits of stitching as a mindful practice, leading to better and more expressive work. We hope students will come with an open mind and ready to experiment. There is no “finished product’ with this class because we would like to work with each student one-on-one to pursue their own stitch journey.

The class will start with presentations and creative prompts to get you thinking. The class will conclude with a show & tell/light critique.

Students should bring: sketchbook, scissors, needles, threads, embroidery flosses, assorted fabrics for sewing/applique, rug hooking hook, foundation material (muslin for sewing, burlap, monks cloth, or linen for rug hooking), assorted wools and yarns, strips for rug hooking

Included in optional kit: 1 fat quarter muslin for sewing, 1 fat quarter linen for rug hooking, 1 rug hook, assorted embroidery flosses, fabrics, yarns, wool strips for sewing and hooking. Quilting hoops are also available for $20 (needed for rug hooking, optional for sewing).

We expect students complete about 30-60% of their project during class time. Students will be given tips and techniques individually to take with them and continue their project at home.

Feel free to bring a covered beverage and snack to the studio. We will take a short break 1/2 way through class.

About our venue: This class is scheduled to take place at Loop by Loop Studio which is located inside the 30 Cutler Mill building in Warren, RI. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO ELEVATOR TO REACH THIS LOCATION AND I AM ON THE SECOND FLOOR. Please also note that this is an industrial mill building so there may be noise, obstructions and equipment in the halls. Please take care when entering.
